Magnetic rope testing instrument INTROS
Steel wire ropes play a critical role in operation of different machines and installations in many industries, such as mining, heavy lifting, cranes, aerial ropeways, elevators, bridges, guyed structures, etc. Proper inspection of rope increase its reliability and operation time. There are two practical methods of wire rope non-destructive inspection – visual and magnetic. Visual inspection, being tiresome and subjective, allows revealing defects located on the rope surface. Magnetic method can detect both outer and inner defects, and also is capable of assessment of corrosion and abrasion level by measuring loss of rope’ metallic cross-section.

LLC "Intron Plus"Description
The common standards, such as ASTM E1571, ISO 4309, EN 12927, IMCA LR 004, recognize Magnetic Rope Testing (MRT) as a considerable mean to ensure wire rope integrity.
The magnetic rope testing instrument INTROS enables wire rope inspection by measuring loss of metallic area (LMA) and detecting outer and inner localized flaws (LF), such as broken wires, strands, pitting corrosion. The instrument is suitable for measuring during wire rope production and on-site operation of different applications.
INTROS operates magnetic flux leakage principle. Strong magnets magnetically saturate the rope during testing, and the leakage flux above the rope surface is uniform unit the rope contains no defects. Defects in the rope, e.g. LMA and LF, disturb the leakage flux, and implemented sensors pick such disturbance for processing.
