Description

The plasma filter is Design and maintenanceed for separation the whole blood on plasma and concentrated blood cells by transmembrane pressure applied across the filtering membrane (pressure difference between a blood chamber and plasma chamber).

The track-etched membrane is a basic element of the plasma filter. The pores of track-etched membrane are formed as the result of bombardment of polymer film with heavy ions beam in cyclotron followed by track etching until formation of the cross-cutting holes. Unique functional properties of track membranes are a small thickness, a cylindrical shape of pores, the high selectivity of filtration, low adsorption of solutes, low resistance to flow of filtered media, etc.
The thickness of the membrane is 10 µm, the pore diameter ~ 0.4 µm, the surface density of pores ~ 6×107 per cm2. The membrane allows free passage of all liquid components of the blood and retain the bulk o the blood cells. The PFM is assembled in raw of parallel chambers for blood and plasma, separated from both sides by porous membrane. The plasma filter has two blood connections (inlet and outlet) and one plasma outlet connector. The volume of primary filing of the PFM-800 is about 25 ml.

When operated PFM-800 must be placed in a special holder, whose main task is to preserve the geometry of the blood chambers stable under excessive positive pressure.
