Gas separators ensures stable operation of electric submersible pumps in case of a high content of free gas in the formation fluid. Gas separators can be installed as the pump intake instead of the input module or next to it. Gas separators are designed to reduce the volumetric content of free gas in the formation fluid to an acceptable volume for an ESP. It can be reached by the centrifugal separation of the gas from the liquid, with the following discharge into the annular space. This eliminates the gas plugs in the pump, which ensures stable operation of the ESP and increases its lifetime.
