PJSC "Kuznetsov" (part of the Russian Engineering Union and JSC "UEC" of the state corporation "Rostec") in the foundry introduced an economical method of manufacturing magnesium castings.
For the first time in the process of manufacturing large-sized castings of parts up to 2 meters in diameter, PJSC Kuznetsov used molds and cores made by selective growth on a 3D printer. The form is an element for the formation of the outer contour of the cast part, and the rods - its internal cavity. Unlike standard technology, this method does not require the manufacture and refinement of large equipment - the most expensive and time-consuming casting stage. As a result of the introduction of technology, it was possible to reduce the cycle and cost of manufacturing parts from light alloys, which may contain rare earth metals.
Within the framework of the project, Kuznetsov PJSC experts developed casting manufacturing methods - the gate-feeding systems were developed, 3D modeling of the casting process was carried out, which allows to identify and eliminate casting defects during the design process.
The obtained castings of parts made of magnesium alloys of a gas turbine engine of the NK brand, manufactured using the technology of selective growing of molds and cores, meet the requirements of design documentation.
